Yesterday, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) announced its decision to adjust the average retail electricity price to VND2,204.06/kWh (excluding VAT) from today (May 10).
Regarding the impact of this electricity price increase, according to EVN’s assessment, the adjustment of electricity prices from May 10, 2025 on household customers will be divided from low to high depending on the household’s electricity consumption.
– Specifically, for households using less than 50 kWh of electricity (accounting for 10.55% of households), the electricity bill will increase by about VND4,550/household/month.
– For the group of customers using from 51 kWh – 100 kWh (accounting for 13.98% of households), the increase in electricity bill will increase by about 9,250 VND/household/month.
– For the group of customers using from 101 kWh – 200 kWh (accounting for 32.79% of households, currently the largest customer group), the increase in electricity bill will increase by about 20,150 VND/household/month.
– For the group of customers using from 201 kWh – 300 kWh (accounting for 19.33% of electricity customers), the increase in electricity bill will increase by about 33,950 VND/household/month.
– For customers using from 301- 400 kWh (accounting for about 9.89% of electricity customers), the increase in electricity bill will increase by about 49,250 VND/household/month.
– For customers using 400 kWh of electricity or more (accounting for about 13.45% of electricity customers), the electricity bill increase is about 65,050 VND/household/month.
According to EVN, according to the assessment data of the General Statistics Office, this electricity price adjustment is expected to increase the consumer price index (CPI) in 2025 by about 0.09%.
This electricity price increase, the State’s support policies for poor households and social policy households on electricity bills are currently implemented according to Decision No. 28 of the Prime Minister.
Poor households are supported with monthly electricity bills equivalent to the amount of electricity used by 30kWh/household/month; social policy households with electricity usage of no more than 50kWh/month, the support level is also equivalent to the amount of electricity used by 30kWh/household/month. The support level for poor households and social policy households is VND 56,790/household/month (excluding value added tax).
If the new price is applied, each poor household will receive electricity support of about VND 59,520/household/month (excluding VAT). This policy aims to reduce the burden of electricity costs for poor households and social policy households, helping to ensure social security and implement the Government’s policy on supporting disadvantaged groups.
According to statistics, in 2024, the whole country will have 599,608 poor households and social policy households receiving electricity support according to the Government’s policy. Basically, this electricity price adjustment will ensure that poor households and policy families are not affected significantly.
